Switches and sockets for use in rail must meet specific standards, such as shock and vibration (IEC 61373), to ensure that the products can withstand the movements of the train. The materials used have to be certified to the EN45545 fire and smoke safety standard to ensure passengers are safe in the event of a fire. In addition, the EN50155:2017 standard defines requirements for temperature, humidity, shock, vibration, etc. for electronic equipment in rolling stock.
